We live in one of the most wonderful places on earth - Androscoggin County in central Maine. The twin cities of Lewiston and Auburn lie on opposite sides of the Androscoggin River. The river and its shores are a great place to fish and canoe, and there are campsites along the banks sponsored by Central Maine Power Company. DOWN EAST magazine devoted its January 1999 issue to our community with a headline that read “The Heart of Maine”. In a rating guide to environmental health, of 317 cities reviewed we came in at number 3. MONEY magazine thinks Lewiston- Auburn is one of the 300 most livable metropolitan areas in the US, and in 1996 we were named as one of the most creative communities in the country by THE 100 BEST SMALL ARTS TOWNS IN AMERICA.

We have six colleges in the area, including the beautiful campus of Bates College here in Lewiston. Our Central Maine Medical Center is ranked in the top 10% of all US hospitals by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare organizations, and St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center has been serving the community for more than 110 years.

We have a strong religious community here in Lewiston. On the left is a photo of St Peter and Paul Church, which took 32 years to complete. It was dedicated in 1938. We have more than 50 churches in the area representing every denomination belief.
